Studio Ghibli is a Japanese animation studio which was founded on 15 June 1985, by the directors Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata and producer Toshio Suzuki. Their work has been well received by audiences and recognized with numerous awards. Their mascot and most recognizable symbol, the character Totoro from the 1988 film My Neighbor Totoro. Among the studio's highest-grossing films are Princess Mononoke (1997), Spirited Away (2001), Howl's Moving Castle (2004), Ponyo (2008), and The Boy and the Heron (2023). Spirited Away won the 2002 Golden Bear and the 2003 Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.

Nana Hiwatari was born in Kanagawa, Japan, and received her first guitar lessons from her mother, winning various prizes at a young age. In 2002, she came to Switzerland and studied guitar with Oscar Ghiglia and Stephan Schmidt at the Basel Music Academy where she obtained her concert diploma. In 2004, Hiwatari received the special prize for the best interpretation of a work by Toshio Hosokawa at the international guitar competition “Toru Takemitsu” in Finland. She regularly performs in Japan and has also recorded a CD there. She now lives in Bern and has been teaching at the Conservatory Music School since 2010.
