Witold Maliszewski (20 July 1873 – 18 July 1939) was a Polish composer, conductor and educator. After studying mathematics and medicine in St. Petersburg, he pursued composition under Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov. He worked extensively in Odessa before returning to Warsaw in 1921. There, he taught composition, helped organize the first International Chopin Competition, co-founded the Frederic Chopin Institute, and headed the Ministry of Education's music department. His compositions received numerous awards in Poland and internationally. Among his students was the renowned Polish composer Witold Lutosławski.

The Four Strings Quartet, founded in 2004 by Lucyna Fiedukiewicz, consists of musicians from the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice. The ensemble has performed alongside internationally acclaimed artists and conductors, enriching its artistic development and musical interpretation. Its repertoire spans from the Baroque period to contemporary works, with a particular focus on quartets by Haydn, Beethoven, Schubert and Dvořák. Recognized for its expressive and distinctive performances, the quartet won the 2009 Grand Prix in the "Forgotten Polish Music" Recording Project Competition.
