Karolina Piatkowska-Nowicka and Bogna Czerwinska-Szymula, highly valued instrumentalists and chamber musicians, present three pieces sharing not only the instruments (violin and piano) for which they are written. The pieces presented on the release grow from a common root: their authors - Grazyna Bacewicz, Aleksander Tansman and Krzysztof Penderecki - belong to the most outstanding Polish composers of the 20th century. They also share the cyclical manner of shaping the piece, yet the approach towards this issue differs among the composers. The extremely varied in terms of emotion Sonata No. 4 for Violin and Piano by Bacewicz reveals neo-romantic features; neoclassical Faintaisie for Violin and Piano by Tansman astonishes with its care for sound colour, whereas monumental Sonata No. 2 for Violin and Piano by Penderecki intrigues with the musical language which, based on the twelve-note scale, treats it in a melodic and harmonic manner.

Karolina Piątkowska-Nowicka (born 31 May 1979) is a Polish violinist. She graduated from the Stanisław Moniuszko Academy in Gdańsk and continued her studies in Lucerne. She earned a Doctor degree in 2011, completed her habilitation in 2018, and was awarded the title of professor of art in 2023. She has held prominent orchestral and academic positions, including concertmaster of Sinfonia Baltica and second violin leader at the Polish Baltic Philharmonic. Since 2006, she has performed with NeoQuartet, specializing in contemporary music. Among her numerous awards is the 2015 "Meritorious for Polish Culture".

Bogna Czerwińska-Szymula (born 1980 in Gdańsk) is a Polish pianist. A graduate of the Gdańsk Academy of Music, she has performed internationally across Europe and the United States. She currently heads the Department of Chamber Music at the Gdańsk Academy and serves as Director of the Johannes Brahms International Chamber Music Competition. Her artistic and pedagogical work focuses on chamber music, piano duos, Polish musical heritage and the promotion of lesser-known composers. Her recordings include acclaimed releases featuring works by Penderecki, Bacewicz, Tansman and Krogulski.
