Julius Röntgen (9 May 1855 – 13 September 1932) was a German-Dutch composer and teacher. Privately educated, he began composing at age eight and studied under prominent musicians like Ferdinand David, Carl Reinecke and Franz Lachner. A meeting with Brahms in 1874 had a decisive influence on his compositional style. Settling in Amsterdam in 1877, Röntgen co-founded the Amsterdam Conservatory and helped establish the Concertgebouw building. He composed over 650 works in almost every genre, evolving from Romanticism to modern experimentation. His first wife was Swedish composer Amanda Maier.

Jean Decroos (9 May 1932 – 27 April 2008) was a French cellist. A student of Paul Tortelier and André Navarra at the Paris Conservatoire, he gained early acclaim with a recording in Italy and later became principal cellist of the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra and, from 1962, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. He performed widely across Europe and Asia, often alongside his wife, pianist Danièle Dechenne, and as part of the Guarneri Trio. Decroos made many recordings, particularly of cello works by Dvořák, Fauré and Bach. He taught at the Conservatory of Amsterdam and the Royal Conservatory in The Hague.

Danièle Dechenne (born 8 July 1936) is a French pianist. She began piano at age five and debuted in concert at nine. A student of Lazare Levy at the Paris Conservatoire, she graduated in 1954 and later won prestigious competitions in Bolzano, Vercelli and Geneva. In 1957, she moved to the Netherlands. She performed widely across Europe, often with her husband, cellist Jean Decroos, and as a member of the Guarneri Trio, which also include violinist Herman Krebbers. Dechenne and Decroos recorded Julius Röntgen's complete cello sonatas. She was a longtime piano teacher at the Sweelinck Conservatory.
