Florent Schmitt (28 September 1870 – 17 August 1958) was a French composer known for his orchestral works. He studied with Gabriel Fauré, Jules Massenet, Théodore Dubois and Albert Lavignac at the Paris Conservatoire. In 1900, he won the Prix de Rome with his lyric scene Sémiramis. Although he was one of the most often performed French composers during the first four decades of the 20th century, Schmitt's works fell into neglect as he became the subject of attacks because of his sympathies towards the Nazi and the Vichy regime. Schmitt wrote 138 works with opus numbers, in most of the major forms of music, except for opera.

Darius Milhaud (4 September 1892 – 22 June 1974) was a French composer, conductor and teacher. Born in Marseille, he studied under Paul Dukas and Vincent d'Indy at the Paris Conservatory, and was a member of Les Six. A prolific composer, Milhaud wrote more than 400 works, including radio and motion-picture scores, a setting of the Jewish Sabbath Morning Service, 13 symphonies, choral works, the two-piano suite Scaramouche, 18 string quartets and other chamber works. His students include Burt Bacharach, Dave Brubeck, Philip Glass, Steve Reich, Karlheinz Stockhausen and Iannis Xenakis, among others
